The Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania

On this day in 1990, Lithuania’s Supreme Soviet passed a resolution about the reinstatement of independence of the Republic of Lithuania. Thus, Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to proclaim its independence. On this day, the national flag is hung over all official institutions, while members of the government and local community figures take part in concerts and other festive events held in main city squares.
