Alexander von Humboldt (14.09.1769 – 06.05.1859) was a German scholar, physicist, naturalist and explorer. For his encyclopaedic knowledge, his contemporaries called him Aristotle of the 21st century. Using general principles and a comparative method, he developed sciences such as physical geography, landscape and plant ecology. His studies laid the foundations for geomagnetism, isothermal method and climatology.
