Ernest Rutherford, an English physicist, father of nuclear physics, the creator of the planetary model of the atom. In each of the three areas of science that Rutherford studied - radioactivity, atomic and nuclear physics - he made fundamental discoveries that laid the foundations of the modern theory of radioactivity and the theory of atomic structure. Ernest Rutherford was the Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry (1908) for his work on the transformation of the elements and the chemistry of radioactive substances, member of different academies and scientific societies, member of the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge and its president in 1925-1930. Ernest Rutherford is considered to be the greatest experimental physicist of the 20th century. He is the central figure in knowledge in the field of radioactivity as well as scientists laid the foundation for nuclear physics. Besides huge theoretical importance his discoveries are used in different spheres such as nuclear weapons, nuclear power stations, radioactive research, etc.
