It is also known as the Day of Camoes, Portugal and Portuguese Communities (Dia de Cam?es, de Portugal e das Comunidades Portuguesas). On that day, Luis Camoes, the country’s great national poet, died. This is an official public holiday in Portugal; all Portuguese celebrate it wherever they happen to live in the world. Although not large scale, celebrations feature concerts and other festive events in large cities including Lisbon, the country’s capital.
