Day of the formal Declaration of Independence in Montenegro

Along with Montenegro Independence Day observed on 21 May the Day of the formal Declaration of Independence in Montenegro is one of the most popular holidays in the country. Celebrations include both official and entertainment events.
On 3 June 2006, the Montenegrin Parliament declared Montenegro’s independence, formally confirming the result of a referendum held on 21 May 2006 in which 55,5% of Montenegrins voted for the country’s independence. The Parliament also adopted a resolution on the Constitution of a sovereign state that stipulated that Montenegro was an independent, democratic and secular state. Joining the EU and NATO was made the country’s goal.
