International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts

November 2020

International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts is celebrated on 6 November. Declaring this day in 2001, the UN based its decision on the premise that environmental harm during armed conflicts led to the long-term deterioration of ecosystems and natural resources even after the conflicts were over, and they affected more than one country and more than the current generation of people. Besides human suffering, war causes the destruction of the environment.
