Montenegro's Independence Day

As an independent state Montenegro emerged in 18th century, but after the First World War country lost its independence and affiliated the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. After the World War II Montenegro became a constituent republic of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which became the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2003. An independence referendum was held in Montenegro on 21 May 2006. The citizens were asked if they wanted Montenegro to become a fully independent state with the corresponding Diplomatic recognition
