Thai National Elephant Day

March 2020

The White Elephant is considered the most valuable and sacred. Any time a white elephant is found it becomes the property of the royal family. Interestingly, King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama the 9th) keeps several royal elephants. At festivals, one can see elephants of any age: from lively two-month-old “babies” to ‘senior citizens”. Elephants wear colourful saddle pads, head, tusks and even legs.
