World Day of Social Justice

20
February 2020

The United Nations' (UN) World Day of Social Justice is annually observed on February 20 to encourage people to look at how social justice affects poverty eradication. The UN holds eradication of social injustice one of its core missions. It supports the principles of justice and strives to remove barriers between people based on their sex, age, racial and ethnic origin, religion, culture or disability. The Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization is a major document in this area. It emphasises the guarantees to all through providing jobs, social dialogue and worker rights. According to Ban Ki-moon, the current Secretary-General of the United Nations, social justice is not just a moral imperative but a base of national stability and global wellbeing. Equal opportunities, solidarity and human rights are crucially important for the realization of the productive potential of nations.
